Hype
Big Horn Canyon is a difficult canyon to recommend as a canyoneering destination. The actual canyon portion is short, and not terribly exciting. What makes this a trip worth recommending, however, is the approach hike. The views and scenery on the approach are fantastic. If your looking for a hike with a little bit of technical canyoneering thrown in, this is a good choice. If you looking for a canyoneering adventure, look elsewhere.
This is a very beginner friendly route. It does, however, require excellent low impact hiking skills. The approach requires crossing a mesa with much cryptobiotic soil. The damage that is starting to be visible is sad. Please choose a careful route on slickrock and in washes to avoid further damage.
