RATING: 3B
LENGTH: 5-7 hours with a car shuttle.
GEAR: Standard Technical Gear, wetsuit in cold times.
RAPPELS: 3 to 15 m ( 50 ft )
WATER: Generally a couple of short pools. In warmer times of the year, no wetsuit needed.
FLASH FLOOD DANGER: Moderate
SEASON: Spring and Fall. Summers can be hot.
NOTES: The trailhead is reachable by most vehicles under most conditions. The exit trailhead and Pothole Fork require a high clearance vehicle. Advanced canyoneers and climbers can up climb the west fork, negating the need for a
shuttle vehicle, but all others will want a shuttle vehicle.
Hype:
Pasture is a classic White Roost canyon. The canyon is quite beginner friendly, having relatively short rappels, and moderate downclimbs that can be well spotted. Although the technical slot section is somewhat short, it offers some great scenary. The standard exit is an improbably route that winds sinuously up from the canyon floor using several sets of cowboy moki steps. Classic! This is one not to be missed if you looking for a beginner friendly canyon, or are just out for a casual day.Looking for a bit of a challenge? Hardcore canyoneers can up the difficulty by ascending the west fork. Beware though, it is a bit tricky and only recommended to advanced canyoneers or climbers. (Exposed climbing to 6 m / 20 ft)
As a bonus, the Pothole Fork provides a very short side trip to round out the day, or as an after dinner canyon if your camping in the area. Note, getting to the Pothole Fork requires a high clearance vehicle.
