canyon High Spur - Robbers Roost
( 0 Votes )
RATING: 3B
LENGTH: 5-7 hours
GEAR: Standard Technical Gear, Moderate Route Finding
RAPPELS: Up to 25 m ( 83 ft )
WATER: Generally little or none unless right after rains. Possibly wading, but likely little swimming.
FLASH FLOOD DANGER: Moderate, but you can see the whole drainage and skies on the approach.
SEASON: Any, although summers can be hot. Roads can be difficult to pass in the winter.

Hype:

High spur is in many people's opinion the most beautiful canyon in the Robber's Roost area. I would agree it is certainly high up on the list. It is a photographers dream! Although technical, much of it can be enjoyed by hikers hiking down and returning the same way.

My History:

I have done high spur 2 or 3 times. The beauty is unsurpased! I have heard it can hold a lot of water, but have never found much water on my trips, even though I have done it within a day or so of rains.

Much easier than Larry's exit crack, just a walk up.

Doing High Spur this weekend. What is the exit crack like? Is it similar to Larry's?

Thanks!

Perfect description! Enjoyed one of the most beautiful slots on the Colorado Plateau. Thanks Ryan for the insights...I would recommend a car shuttle however. The hike bike got to be a little long but not bad. There was a good amount of water in the first pothole (1st rappel/downclimb) as of June 13. The slings were in excellent order throughout the canyon.

Enjoy!
