RAPPELS: 1+

SEASON: Late spring through early fall

Hype:

Close to Salt Lake City, with a short approach, makes Lisa Falls a great place to visit. There are some excellent moderate climbs near the falls, as well as large boulders to hang out on and enjoy the view. For the technically inclined, rappelling the waterfall on a hot day is guaranteed to cool you off!

Trailhead:

From the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon, and park and ride lot, drive 2.8 miles up canyon to a pullout on the left (north) side of the canyon. This is on a bend, just past a large pullout on the right. (12T 438539mE 4491560mN)

Route:

Lisa Falls - Rappelling From the trailhead follow the well traveled dirt trail north about 10 minutes to the base of the falls. This makes a great family hike, and should be accessible to almost all.

For those wishing to rappel the falls, follow the dirt trail as it climbs steeply up the left (west) side of the waterfall. The best section of the waterfall is the last 25 m ( 83 ft ), but you can hike up further and make low angle rappels down the less steep cascades. Several natural anchors are available. Be careful downclimbing to the falls, and getting on rope, as the wet granite is extremely slippery.

Return the way you came.

My History:

I've climbed at Lisa Falls many times over the years, rapping the falls on my last visit in the summer of 2008.
