LENGTH: 3-6 hours each fork.

WATER: Generally little or none unless right after rains. Possibly wading, but likely no swimming.
FLASH FLOOD DANGER: Moderate, but you can see the whole drainage and skies on the approach.

Hype:

The Leprechaun's are many peoples first canyons. Easy access, and fairly straight forward, they are a good choice. Choose your fork wisely if you are a beginner.

My History:

I have been in all three forks on several occasions over the last few years. The middle fork is definitely my favorite, but I find the right fork a great choice for beginner groups. My record is doing the middle fork twice in one day, with 2 different groups. Very fun.

Sounds like you have been in the main fork of Leprechuan, below where the three forks come together. You may have noticed the right fork coming in just before the canyon got very narrow??

Going up the narrow section is possible, but requires a bit of climbing up over constrictions. It is narrow!

The area below the three forks is not described above, but probably should be added. It makes a great hike for those not wanting to come down from the top.

Dear Joe: in which canyon have we been?? Hwy95, Milepost 28,1. We parked on the left, walked a sandy road for 10 minutes, passed on the left of a rock which may have been the chessman rock, went through some bushes in a dry creek bed for a while, came to a narrow slot section filled with water, bypassed it by climbing to a rock sledge on the right, climbed down into the slot again and entered a marvelous big, red canyon, curving and getting narrower and leading into a tunnel-like section. Soon thereafter the slot was too tight to proceed. It does not match with any of your Leprechaun fork descriptions. Where have we been??? Thanks so much and kind regards Heinz Mostosi, Switzerland, heinzmostosi@hotmail.com
