Horse Play Canyon - North Wash
RATING: 2A
LENGTH: 2-4 Hours
GEAR: A short rope may be handy for beginners
WATER: Generally little or none, most pools should be avoidable.
FLASH FLOOD DANGER: Moderate, but you can see the whole drainage and skies on the approach.
SEASON: Any.
Hype:
Sometimes good things come in small packages. This canyon didn't look like much on the map, but turned out to be a charmer. No rappels and no wetsuit needed make this a canyon that can be enjoyed with a small pack. It has varied narrows, and packs a lot of action for such a short canyon.Expect a bit of climbing, squeezing, stemming, and fun. Note: If you are a larger canyoneer ( > 34 inch waist), there may be substantial stemming to go over the narrow sections. None should be particularly hard or exposed, but it can be a bit of work.
My History:
I did Horse Play in the fall of 2007. Not really expecting much, I was very pleasantly surprised at how beautiful and fun the canyon was. Turned out to be one of the better non-technical canyons I've seen in awhile.
