Moab - Utah
Moab, in my opinion, is the incarnation of the civilized desert in southern Utah. Boasting many tourists year around, this is a different experience than most of the other areas of Southern Utah.

When?

Anytime, although summers are too hot for my taste. Tourist season seems to be in full swing from early spring until late fall. Winter days can be pleasant if the sun is out, and the crowds will definitely be less in the off season. Hotel rates can be quite cheap in the winter season as well, making this a good destination for those who prefer not to camp during the long winter nights.

Where?

South eastern Utah. There are numerous campgrounds around Moab to stay at, as well as many hotel options, and a hostel in Moab proper. With a little searching, decent free camping can be found relatively close to Moab on BLM land.

What?

Classic canyoneering adventures include Midevil Chamber, Tierdrop, and exploring the Fiery Furnace. Aside from canyoneering, there are many hiking, mountain biking, climbing and rafting opportunities.
