Devils Garden - Escalante
Overview:
Rating: Easy trail walking
Length: 1-2 hours
Hype:
Devil's Garden seems to be an often overlooked gem. A short
side trip from the Hole in the Rock road leads to a unique
landscape of hoodoos and arches.
Trailhead:
Head east out of the town of Escalante about 5 miles on highway
12 until the well signed Hole in the Rock road. From the
mileage sign on the Hole in the Rock road (0.3 miles from the
highway), travel down the Hole in the Rock road for 11.5 miles
to the signed Devil's Garden turn off on the south side of the
road. From here, it's 1/4 mile drive to a parking area with a
couple of picnic tables, and pit toilet. No camping allowed at
Devil's Garden proper. Any vehicle should be able to reach the
trailhead in most conditions.
Route Description:
From the parking area, an information sign describes the
formations. Short, well traveled dirt trails lead in and around
the various towers and hoodoos. Several arches and unique
colors lend themselves to great photographs. This is a fun
place for photographers, kids, or those that are kids at heart.

Route Map:
None needed. Just follow the short well traveled trails.
My History:
I've visited Devil's Garden a couple of times, most recently in
the spring of 2007. It's an amazing place I highly recommend a
side trip to if you are in the area.
