Hype

Tierdrop is a mellow canyon in Arches. Although not really a slot, the canyon provides amazing views, and an opportunity for big rappels, interesting anchors, and phenomenal views. This is a great casual canyoneering afternoon if your in the Moab area, and have expert natural anchor skills.

Other websites, specifically the ACA canyoneering forums, state that you only need a 200ft rope. That is not the case. As state above, two 200ft ropes (or a 200ft and a pull cord) would be best. When I descended it on March 8, 2010, the 3rd rap was set up on some boulders on canyon right. From that point, we deployed a 200ft rope with 30ft of cordelette tied on the pull side, and that was just enough to reach the ground on both strands.

Took the family with 7 kids ranging from age 6 yrs up to 21 yrs. Had a great time. Two 60 m ropes were plenty long. As of Memorial weekend 2010, there were good webbing anchors w/ quick links already in place. The grooves on the last rap are getting pretty deep, but don't know how you can avoid that without a very tricking (ie. scary, dangerous) hook-up at the edge. It was a blast.

Did this route on Feb 18, 2012. Had a great time. The area was extremely beautiful! This canyon was a pleasant surprise and allow our group to test our canyoneering skills! I will gladly do the route again in a heart beat.
